female genital herpes Archives

I am a 25 year old male in excellent physical health. Recently I have been having sex with a girl, no oral for me (she did perform oral), just the basic stuff. I have only had sex with her 4 times, twice protected and twice unprotected. These were spread out over about 5 weeks. After having unprotected sex with her the first time (about 3 1/2 weeks ago) we didn't have sex for about 2 weeks. After having unprotected sex with her for the second time (about a week and a half ago) she called me two days later and said that she had a swab test and was positive for HSV2. She thought that it was me that had given it to her. She told me that about midway between the time we had unprotected sex both times (about 2 1/2 weeks ago) she had a bump and got tested. She said that it was just one and doctor told her it was probably a very mild outbreak. I immediately went to the doctor and got a blood test which gave the results of about 4 (out of 1) positive for HSV1 and .02 (out of 1) negative for HSV2. I have never had any symptoms, either cold sores or itching/burning or anything. Here are my questions:

1. My doctor told me that swab tests cannot differentiate between HSV1 and HSV2, is this correct? The information that I found online seem to suggest otherwise.

2. If she does have HSV2, what are the chances that I got it from her in the 4 times I had sex with her?

3. What are the chances that I do have HSV2 is my blood test results showed me negative as a .02 out of 1 required for a positive?

4. Is there a chance that she doesn't have it and the swab test was inaccurate? I told her she needed to get a blood test to confirm.

5. If you generally shed the virus during an outbreak, and her one bump healed a few days before we had unprotected sex the second time, how long was she shedding?

6. If my blood test came back negative with .02 out of 1, does this amount increase over time, and if so, would that mean that I could still have it and just have a false negative?

I have been researching online extensively, but haven't found any answers really to these questions. I was excited when I found out I was negative, and thought because she had the swab test she probably only had HSV1, but now am starting to think otherwise and am hoping that I didn't contract it from her.

Thanks for anyone who will take the time to answer this. You don't have to answer anything specifically if you don't have the time, but a general response to some of these issues would be greatly appreciated.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Genital Herpes?

Most people infected with HSV-2 are not aware of their infection. However, if signs and symptoms occur during the first outbreak, they can be quite pronounced. The first outbreak usually occurs within two weeks after the virus is transmitted, and the sores typically heal within two to four weeks. Other signs and symptoms during the primary episode may include a second crop of sores, and flu-like symptoms, including fever and swollen glands. However, most individuals with HSV-2 infection may never have sores, or they may have very mild signs that they do not even notice or that they mistake for insect bites or another skin condition.

is it possible that i may have genital herpes even though i haven't had sex in like a couple of months? about 5..
i see a bump down there.. all alone...never seen it before don't know how it got there but its there
i was thinking that maybe its from my pants being really tight and rubbing??? i really hope its that
i don't think i have herpes.. or even an std
should i get it checked out just to be sure?
the bump is not red... its like my skin color..and i don't see no puss in it...well today was the only day i actually noticed it so should i stop worrying now? I'm completely freaking out! are there any doctors that could possibly describe herpes a bit better than what the internet says? and also while i was lookin down there i noticed some white fluids inside my vaginal...area...im not sure if this is just regular discharge or if i somehow got horney while i was trying to target that lil bump ...has this ever happened to anyone before? im only 16 btw...im scared.

i've heard my mom and sister say they get bumps because they're underwears too tight? ...is that it? maybe it is...can someone help... i think im going to cry......
the bump is on my ....labia

i'm not a doctor but i do have herpes and could tell u a couple of things about it. absolutely get this checked out if some thing like this is not normal for u to have. herpes can lie dormant for months after u have had sex.it may not be because u are fat. it could also be just from wearing tight pants a lot or an allergic reaction.
but i will give u some of the symptoms that i experienced on my first 2 out breaks.
itching, burning, and or tingling sensations under the skin of the genitals
swollen genitals
flu like symptoms (sore muscles and fever)
usually herpes looks like raised blisters with a red or yellow ring around them
or they could come in the form of cuts or open sores
u can also go to webmd.com or mayoclinic.com.
added> that is also a posibility but do get this checked out if your that worried, so u would know for sure what this is.
i have both genital and oral herpes.

Will i always have genital herpes,
will i still be able to have children

Sorry to say that currently there is no treatment that totally gets rid of genital herpes. But yes you may still have children, but you will have to have a C section or it could effect your child during birth

i did 6 months for a gun charge and when i came home {NY} I had sex with my wife of course and right after i broke out. I paid no attention to it but when it wouldn't leave I got tested and I was negative for HIV and etc. but positive for HSV 2. I cried a lil and argued with my wife who swears she didnt cheat on me. he octor at the clinic told me it dosn't mean she cheated on me since Herpes can hav no symptoms for years, in my mind I know my wife gave it to me. Im looking for a female who can be my friend and hopefully we can give support to each other. Hopefully in the Ny Area. Thanks and please no negativity. honesty shouldnt be attacked.

I've had have had herpes for 30 years so I know a few things. From now on you will have to tell anyone you are going to have sex with about your condition. Even when a lesion is not present it is possible to infect you partner. Using condoms (rubbers), helps reduce the risk of spreading the virus, but is not a complete guarantee. Finally, your wife did cheat on you. I recommend talking to her and trying to get her to be honest with you. The biggest problem in your marriage right now is not her infidelity, but her lying. Good luck

Does anyone know of a statistic with men and women that are living with the genital herpes virus in America? How common is it?

One out of 5 people has genital herpes. More women than men have it 1 out of 4 versus 1 out of 5. This is probably because women catch it easier due to the type of skin in contact (Penis skin is thicker than vaginal skin). Many people don't even know they have it.

For those that have genital herpes.. preferrably a female.. have you been sleeping with a guy who isn't infected and have been using just a condom and not using a daily medication like valtrex?.. if you have never transmitted it to ur partner how long have yall been together?? r u ever self conscious about spreading it..

Me? Never.
A good friend of mine got herpes the FIRST time he had sex. It was with a girl he was working with at the fast food restaurant. He was 16.
He's still got it - he's 50!

Will It Ruin The Chances Of Having A Perfectly Healthy Baby? And A Clean-Free-Of STDs Relationship?Basically Is There Medications I Could Take that will Help Me Not Give it To ANYONE ELSE!or Ruin The Future of having a family, im scared :(

Genital Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus while genital warts are caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

Similarities: Both are viruses for which there is currently no cure and are spread through skin to skin contact. Therefore, both HSV and HPV can be transmitted with or without symptoms, while on suppression medication, through oral sex, and while having sex with a condom. You can test positive for both even if you have never had any symptoms. In general, over time, your body's immune system builds antibodies to fight off the symptoms of the viruses so you should have less symptoms over time. Both viruses are manageable to some extent. You can have healthy children, don't worry! If you have an outbreak during delivery, however, the doctor may have to perform a c-section.

Differences: Herpes symptoms tend to be similar to blisters or a rash, sometimes like paper cuts on the genitals for women. Genital warts look like skin tags or little clusters that almost look like cauliflower. There is currently no FDA approved test for men to test for HPV. 1 in 4 people have HSV while 1 in 2 people have had some strain of HPV. Another difference is that high risk strains of HPV can possibly lead to cervical Cancer. Therefore, if you are diagnosed with this type if HPV, it is important to get a pap at least once a year. Also, they recently release a vaccination for young women called Gardisil which can help protect them from getting the majority of the high risk strains of HPV.

And with both HSV and HPV, you are responsible for disclosing your status with a potential partner before having sexual contact. However, there are people who will understand your situation and accept you even if you have HSV or HPV. Everything will be okay!

I am in the middle of my first Genital Herpes HSV-1 outbreak. I am having a lot of trouble with pain, since the sores are around my vagina and anus. Is there anything I can put on it to help it heal quicker and make the pain go away? I know they say to keep it dry but if it's dry the scabs bleed and that's just uncomfortable. Any helpful answers would be greatly appreciated!!

OK... bathe in a nice warm epsom salt bath.
Dry your genitals with a hair dryer on a cool setting.
Apply 100% aloe vera gel (it dries very quickly and actually speeds healing of the sores).
ICE PACKS WORK WONDERS!!!
Run out to a health store and pick up Lysine supplements, take about 1500mgs a day.

o r a l intercourse can she still receive if she has herpes

Yes, but her partner may end up getting herpes, too.

There are precautions which can be taken to minimize the risk; but, the risk will still be there.

I'm a female with genital herpes and i rarely have 'actual' break outs with blisters and all but I'm often itchy and it looks and feels like there's a cut and it's always in the same spot. When I itch it just makes it worse! could this be a type of outbreak?? And does this increase my chance of spreading the virus??

The answer to both your questions is absolutely yes. Herpes live in your nerve cell endings and that's why you feel an itchiness. Avoid sexual contact at this time to reduce the chance of spreading it to someone else.
